The Stegosaur Green series are a set of modules designed to be compatible with RC2014/RCBus systems. Their design is very similar to the Yellow MSX series, with some improvements and simplifications; with the main visual difference being their PCBs heights reduced from 8cm down to a more conventional 5.5cm height.
Many of the modules are compatible with a standard RomWBW system (and its CP/M implementation), giving your system access to things such as full matrix keyboards, sounds, and video. Or with a complete set, turn your system into a bootable MSX2 compatible computer.
You can mix modules from other series. Although please note, the Stegosaur modules typically need a full 80Way RCBus backplane.
Under each module’s description, you will see a ‘Difference’ section that highlights the main differences between each of of the Yellow and Stegosaur modules.
See bottom of this page for details on building a MSX bootable system.
Give your RC2014 the advanced graphic capabilities of the mid to late 80s. This kit is powered by the V9958 Video Display Processors (VDP)
A Z80 CPU module supporting speeds up to 20Mhz - but with the required wait states and clock control to ensure compatibility with existing software and RC2014/RCBus modules.
Add MSX-BIOS and MSX-BASIC support functions for the MSX YM2413 Music Module
A full size keyboard kit for your RC2014 system, for use with 5 pin Cherry compatible switches.
A full MSX2 compatible ROM and RAM solution for your RC2014/RCBus system.
A 10 slot RCBus 80 way backplane plus a single MSX 50 way cartridge edge connector.
Just like the Yellow Series, if you like to go to the next step, you can use these modules to create a fully bootable MSX compatible computer and run original MSX games and software!
A working/bootable MSX system can be constructed in various configurations. You can have all Stegosaur series modules, or use a mixture of Yellow, Green, Stegosaur or other stock RC2014 modules.
For a bootable MSX system you need at least:
| Name | Options |
|---|---|
| Backplane | A 80 way RCBus backplane is required - the Stegosaur 10 + MSX Slot Backplane or the Yellow 12+1 Backplane are recommended |
| CPU | The Turbo CPU module or a stock RC2014 Z80 |
| Memory | The MSX Memory module is required. |
| Keyboard | The PPI module & Keyboard is required. |
| Video | The V9958 MSX Video module is required. |
| Sound | The MSX YM2149 Game module is highly recommended. |
